Potomac, Md. – The C&O Canal Trust will be hosting its Seventh Annual Park After Dark benefit, Cheers to Ten Years, on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. to benefit the C&O Canal National Historical Park (NHP). This unique event is held under the stars at the Historic Great Falls Tavern within the C&O Canal NHP and features live music, great food, libations, night hikes to Great Falls Overlook, a campfire, a silent auction, and a live auction to benefit the Park’s Canal Classrooms education program. The evening will celebrate the C&O Canal Trust’s 10th anniversary as the official fundraising partner for the C&O Canal NHP.

Highlights of the evening will include popular dance group The 19th Street Band and a gourmet buffet dinner by Corcoran Caterers. The event takes place on the lawn behind the Tavern in Great Falls, where guests can enjoy the still canal waters and beautiful setting while raising money to support the Park they love.

Last year, the C&O Canal Trust raised $94,000 at this event. The proceeds support the preservation programs of the NHP, which hosts nearly five million visitors each year along its 184.5-mile length. Park After Dark is the largest fundraising event held annually to benefit this national park.

During the event, the William O. Douglas Stewardship Award will be presented to the Bernstein Family Foundation in honor of their enduring commitment to the C&O Canal. Previous recipients of this award include Mark Stover, founder of Quality Systems and Products (2016), Roy Sewall, past C&O Canal Trust Board Chair (2015), Richard E. Marriott, chairman of the J. Willard and Alice S. Marriott Foundation (2014), and Paul Chod and Andy Chod of the Minkoff Development Corporation (2013).

The Canal Pride Award for Volunteer Service will be presented to C&O Canal Trust volunteer Jim Heins during the event.

Tickets for the event are on sale now and are $200 per person for a general event ticket. All but $50 of the ticket price is a tax-deductible donation to the C&O Canal Trust. Tickets are available at www.ParkAfterDark.org .
